As with all mini and youth rugby teams, Brighton u10s endorse the RFU Core Values as the basis for creating an enjoyable environment to guide the team.
Beyond this, at the start of each season, we hold a contract session with our players. Together, through discussion, we agree on the trademark behaviors that they consider matter the most for the year ahead and this contract then serves as a guiding statement for them both on and off the pitch.
In our experience, by involving the team in these discussions and agreeing on the contracts with them, the players are more invested in observing them.
Rather than giving individual accolades based on achievements on the pitch, our coaches present the Player of the Week and, ultimately, Player of the Season awards to the player we feel best exhibits our trademark behaviours.
Over time, this approach has allowed us to create a fun, respectful, and competitive environment in which our coaches encourage the team to play an expansive style of rugby that allows players to really express themselves.
This season, the team agreed on its three core values:
FUN
• Our players always give a warm welcome to new players and are open to making new friends.
• Our players celebrate good play in a respectful way.
• Our players are open to learning new skills and new ideas.
• Our players strive to become the best players and teammates we can be.
• Our players enjoy the game, whatever the result.

RESPECT
• Our players are respectful to everyone – Coaches, Referees, Parents, Opposition, Team Mates and Club Staff.
• Our players check in with the coach on arrival, by giving a ‘fist bump’ and making eye contact.
• Our players say “Hello” to our team mates when they arrive for training and festivals.
• After matches, led by our Captain, our players stand tall and stand together to give three loud cheers to the opposition.
• After matches, our players always thank the referee for officiating the game.
• Our players respect the club shirt, equipment, and facilities at all times.

RESPONSIBILITY
• Our players are willing to listen and learn.
• Our players take responsibility for helping our teammates to learn and improve.
• Our players are responsible for arriving on time for training and festivals.
• Our players are responsible for being ready to play when we arrive.
• Our players take responsibility for their kit, including: - Gum Shield, Laces tied
