Brighton U16 Pair Earn Divisional Selection

Brighton U16 Pair Earn Divisional Selection

Mark Grigg22 Apr 2014 - 14:11

Congratulations to Sam Morley and Dan Wheatley on their selection into the London and South East Divisional Squad.

Sam and Dan were among five Sussex based players, who were all from Brighton Blues U16 to attend divisional trials having produced some outstanding performances at County level against, Surrey, Middlesex and Hampshire this season.

Their selection into the squad means that they trained and played with the London and South East squad in preparation for the BMW Wellington College International Rugby Festival which took place at Wellington College earlier this month. The Wellington Festival saw all four English divisional sides, joined by Italian, French, Welsh and Scottish representative sides who compete against each other throughout the week giving the emerging players in attendance the opportunity to showcase their skill against other top class oppositions.

Across the week, the four divisional sides give way to four combined representative teams with England, England Saxons, England Roses and England Lions competing on the final day of the festival. Both players produced some great rugby across the week, with Sam Morley being selected to represent the Saxons and Dan Wheatley to represent the Roses on the final day.

The level that these players have reached, along with the other boys from the club that were divisional trialists is another testament to the strength of the youth system at Brighton Blues and to the hard work that is not only put in by the players, but also by the coaching staff and club as a whole.

With many of this age-group hoping to further their rugby development next season, the future is looking bright as they make the transition to U18 and college rugby.
