Brighton U13 vs Burgess Hill | Match Report

TUDOR ELLIS20 May 2021 - 20:49

Great day for everyone

Match report for Burgess Hill by Andy Taylor

On a lovely sunny spring morning U13s hosted Burgess Hill for the 3rd match in our O2 touch rules series. Burgess Hill struggled for available players and could only field 8, so we reduced pitch size and played 2 halves of 15 minutes.

Brighton started strongly and scored the 1st try, our newest member Issac getting his first try for the club. After a couple of sets of tackles per side both teams defence held tight until Otto broke through to score. Burgess Hill had some sustained pressure on our line and eventually scored thier 1st try. With more good play from both sides looking fairly even Jonah managed a fine intercept try to finish the 1st half.

Brighton had enough players to rotate the whole squad so fresh legs where full of running and on the 5th tackle Burgess Hill kicked for territory which was taken cleanly by Ben and he ran it back evading the tacklers to score a lovely 1st phase try, the next try scored was scored by Jonah another excellent intercept, unfortunately he was filling in for an injured Burgess Hill play bringing the score to 4:2. With 5 minutes still to play there was so great defence on both sides but eventually Brighton broke through and spun the ball out to the winger and Toby strode in to make the final score 5:2.

In the interest of finishing with a fun day out both sides divided in 2 and created 2 barbarian sides for 20 minutes of friendly rugby. The day was then topped off with an alfresco meal served socially distanced on the 1st team pitch, rounding off a great day all round.
