Ben Herbe Hangs Up His Boots

Ben Herbe Hangs Up His Boots

Alex Finch29 Apr 2020 - 12:01

After 5 years with Brighton, Herbe calls it time.

"Herbs has been an asset to the team, he wore his heart on his sleeve every match, you oculdn't ask for more from him. Easily the hottest head of any player i've played with, time for someone else to take that mantle."
- Alex Finch

Now that the dust has settled on the extraordinary 2019/20 season the club would like to express its gratitude to Ben Herbe who has decided to bring to an end his time with the club at least as far as the first XV is concerned.

Ben joined the club in 2014/15 and has been first choice scrum half for the large majority of that time making a total of 114 first XV appearances, he has a very healthy strike rate for a scrum half with 22 tries. Ben has never given less than 100% and has been a real stalwart of the team , a real team player. His main attributes have probably been his strength in the tackle (the 4th back row) and his general physical presence making it very difficult for the opposition to stop him scoring from short range. Ben scored an impressive total of 159 points for the first team.

Ben's nickname is Nibbler which apparently comes from his total inability to stop himself nibbling away at the Referee . I was told by a fellow first team player, who shall be nameless, that once on the pitch "Ben had little control over his mouth". Let's call it passion!

Ben and his dad Phil have been fixtures at the Club for years now and hopefully we will continue to see plenty of both of them.

After getting married last year Ben moved away from Brighton to Tunbridge Wells so a lot of travelling to practice and games has been required and that combined with the concussions Ben picked up towards over the last couple of seasons have led to Ben reaching his decision.

Thanks again Ben and everyone at the Club wishes you all the very best for the future.
