Drugs

It’s pretty simple really….

We know many of you will come into contact with different types of
substances including illegal drugs and alcohol. Any substance can have
different impacts on your health which can affect your ability to play any
sport. Many drugs are also illegal which can place you and the club in a
risky position.

As a Club we have a legal responsibility to report all and any instance of
drug use that occurs on the premises to the police. This includes the
clubhouse, the playing areas and the car park. This also includes any
instances where drugs are found or when a person is suspected of being in
possession.

Did you know….

That the RFU actively participate with the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD)
program of drug-testing. This is both in the professional and amateur game.
In 2018, 11% of all UKAD sanctions were made against amateur Rugby
Union players, including players from South West 1 – the equivalent league
to where our 1st XV play.

Players received a 4-year ban for steroid use and others were further
reported to the police following positive testing for cannabis.

Drinking….

People do drink at the Club. Sometimes behaviour can make others feel
uncomfortable. Take responsibility for how much you drink (if you are 18
and over) and let someone you trust know if you are uncomfortable with
someone else’s drinking levels or consequent behaviours.

Anyone found with drugs….

In their possession, using drugs or otherwise, on any part of the club premises has to be reported to the police; this is something we have to do. As a Club we don’t want to have to do this, so if you use or carry drugs, then don’t do it at the Club or on it’s premises.

Under RFU guidelines, the Club has to conduct a Disciplinary Hearing.

So…

Think about where you are. Think about what behaviours are expected of you as a sportsperson, a team member and specifically as a rugby player. Keep yourself, your team
mates and the club safe.

If you're worried about your drug use, talk to someone you trust.
