BRIGHTON U7'S RFU TEAM AT WASPS ADAMS PARK

The Wasps U7 BRITA Cup – Sunday 16th November @ Farnham Royal RFC
Unbeknown to us we were drawn in the ‘Group of Extreme Pain’ but our boys, perfectly tuned, started brilliantly in beating Chipping Norton Orangutans 6 v 4 tries, who became the eventual Wasps Cup Festival winners with only one defeat .
On sticky, muddy ground our running and tagging was working well as we beat High Wycombe Sneakers 4 v 1. Next up was a surprise turnaround, as the Marlowe Mastiffs bite was worse than their bark and we went down 2 v 5. A lesson learnt as the Mastiffs tagged extremely well. Finishing off our group games were the Wendens Ambo Crusaders and a great display by the lads with a 5 v 0 victory. A nail biting few minutes ensued as our group was to be decided on try count-back as to which knockout round we would be in.
The Plate it was to be and in the semi-final Wendens Ambo Knaves with very speedy players began well, but with our best teamwork we hit back for a well-deserved 5 v 3 win. The boys were really buzzing now with the chance of a winner’s trophy at stake. Saving the best until last with excellent attacking rugby combined with quality defending we beat Buckingham 7 v 4 to be crowned Plate Champions. The overall winners were the Orangutans, a team the boys had beaten in their group stage, a tremendous achievement!
All the 6 boys: Bailey, James, Oliver, Felix, Elliot and Alex played exceptionally well. Most importantly the great team spirit, sportsmanship and behaviour was a joy to watch. Huge congratulations lads!!!
The thrilling day continued for the boys as they were invited to be the guard of honour for the Wasps v London Welsh Premiership match and then parade their trophy at halftime in front of 5,000 fans. A very proud moment for the boys and indeed for the parents. With the Wasps winning 71 v 7 a superb game of attacking rugby was enjoyed by 6 open-mouthed boys who I’m sure won’t forget their day in a hurry.
