It was straight in at the deep end for Brighton Blues for this year’s U15 Division 1 League season with a re-run of the last two years Trophy final’s vs Horsham when the Green and Whites visited the Blues on Sunday.
Since the teams last met, the Sussex jungle drums were banging about the recent signings to Horsham from Heath and Borough and this sounded like the close matches that the two teams were were used to were about to become even closer.
The match proved to be a high standard, with excellent rugby on display from both sides. Neither team showed any real weaknesses and the backs and forwards on both teams looked strong and evenly matched.
The half-time score board was 17 – 0 to Brighton. This reflected where the game was being played, with Horsham entering the Blues 22 on one occasion. However, territory didn’t really tell the story and there was a real battle going on for possession.
Blues tries came from Frank, Mike and Josh J with Frank converting one of them.
The second half started with Horsham having a good phase in the Blues 22 but they were repelled. The next score was when Brighton ran a well-worked move and scored in the corner.
Following this Horsham were awarded a penalty try which was converted. Brighton then started to play for space and this led to another try which was converted. With 2 minutes to go Horsham came back and scored in the corner.
Second Half try scorers were Toby & Connor with Frank converting one.
Irrespective of which team was being supported, all agreed it was a great game of rugby, played with passion and the spirit of the game. Will it be another Brighton v Horsham Final? We will have to see.
