Bognor hosted Brighton U14B at Hampshire Avenue. Bognor started well, collecting the ball from KO and running at the Blues defence, sniping around the fringes. The Blues defended well and eventually won some good turnover ball at the breakdown.
The Jacob and Olly pairing at 9 & 10 was working well, although Bognor were quick away from the breakdown and put Olly under pressure most of the game, doing well to close out his space. Strong running in the centres created overlaps as Brighton committed Bognor players to the breakdown and started to create space out wide. This soon paid off with both wings and Josh from the open side breaking clear, with 3 x tries in quick succession.
Josh also scored a fantastic individual try from KO, catching the ball and outpacing all the Bognor defenders to score in the corner.
Brighton stuck to their game plan, and used their pick and go from the base of the ruck to continue to suck in the opposition giving the backs time on the ball. Olly stepped deeper to give himself more time and this paid dividends.
The Blues front row dominated all game at scrum time and Billy took three excellent takes against the head. Bailey and Frankie put pressure on from the front row and Bailey, playing at tight head, created at least three try scoring opportunities at the set, taking his side of the scrum up allowing Lucas to take ball from the base of the scrum to run at the lone defender.
Bailey also controlled his game well in the loose and scored a deserved try from 5M out muscling his way over the line in his man of the match performance.
Bognor, whilst under pressure, didn't take a backward step and they deserve a lot of credit for continuing to play in good spirits and never letting their heads go down.
Overall, an excellent team performance, showing the aggression that was lacking in last weeks league game and it sets the B up well for the double fixture vs Westcombe Park next week.
