After many months of keeping safe & dreaming of a competitive league match, our first Waterfall game took place at Lewes.
It was straight into some tough rucking & tackles & it was great to see the team putting in some strong defence against a big Lewes team. Relentless tackles from Ollie C plus ruck clearances from Curtis, Theo & Ollie G inspired the rest of the team to do the same, leading to a combination move of 2 rucks up the middle before getting the ball out wide to Fin to run in a try.
The second half brought more sustained pressure from Lewes with several players needing a bit of the Magic Tape before returning to the pitch. Committed runs from Brandon and planned moves with Isaac and Fin were finally rewarded with a stolen ball from Otto being run in to give Brighton their second try.
Late in the second half, the inevitable fatigue started to set in & Lewes made the most of a couple of unfortunate dropped balls, unlucky bounces from otherwise inventive kicks & injury to some of the key positions.
This was the first game on a full size pitch for most of the team so was a big step up. Well done to every player, although the result didn't go our way, your commitment right to the final whistle was great to see.
Thanks to Lewes for hosting us & to our coaches & travelling supporters for your encouragement.
It's good to be back.
