Gloria is alive but a bit sore

The Outcasts had a great day at The University of Brighton training against the full Samoan 2015 World Cup Squad. Kitted Outcasts on the day were Chris Canneaux, Rufus Curd, Sam Howse, Ken Iizuka, Mike Meckiff, George Whiting and myself along with Peter Henning as official photographer. The guest referee was Alain Rolland.

The forwards first up joined in some scrummaging then spent a long time providing opposition for the Samoan line-outs. We took one against their throw as well. The backs were running defence against their back line. After a break, Samoa split into two teams and were playing full contact rugby against each other which we were allowed to watch.

After about 15 minutes, a couple of the Samoan players left the field and the coach shouted over to the sideline for three players. The fastest men to respond to this were Sam Howse, Mike Meckiff and of course speed on legs - me. I then walked into the Samoan scrum to play Lock still wearing my USA rugby shirt! My fellow second row looked down at me and said "are you alright Uncle". The prop opposite pointed out "nice shirt mate".

Us three then played full contact (joined by George Whiting later) for Samoa B against Samoa A with the best moment of an amazing day being Sam Howse nailing Alessandro Tuilagi with a perfect tackle (a video clip of this has been uploaded).

A big thank you to Brighton Rugby Club for this opportunity and to the Samoan Rugby Team for being extraordinarily friendly.
