Brighton Blues are really proud to have been involved in the career development of some promising young players.

The international stars from Brighton rugby club include the following;

Frank Taggart, Flanker, born in Brighton and now playing with Ulster. Frank is in the starting line-up for Ireland U 20’s at No. 8.

Sam Morley featured in the England U 16 Saxon squad last year through the regional selection process. Sam is currently at Whitgift School.

Jon Searle moving up from the Harlequins academy and Susses county appearances Jon has joined the England U16 training squad this year

Hot off the press, Marcus Smith has been selected to play for England U16 at fly half against Wales in two weeks following the England schools international festival at Wellington College.

Harry Leonard, now playing with Yorkshire Carnegie previously played at Edinburgh from the age of 19. Harry was nominated for Championship player of the month for March this year. The former Scotland U 20s captain, Harry has also played in the Heineken Cup as well as Captaining the U20s squad for the Junior World Championships in South Africa.

Jack Thomas has been selected by England Counties Under 20’s to tour Hungary on 8th – 15th May. Jack has been in terrific form this season with 19 appearances and 4 tries. The back row player was picked from over 100 players who were on trial including Blues Abe Bredin and Will Hoare who were unlucky not to make the cut. The 22 man squad travelling to Hungary will be playing two games; the first against Hungary U25s, the second against Hungary Barbarians.

Mat Bellenie, to play for Philippines in Division 1 Asian Rugby Championship on May 6th

Brighton Blues 1st team prop and product of the youth academy Matt Bellenie flew out to the Philippines today to represent his country who play in the Division 1 Asian Rugby Championship. The Philippines are hosting the championship and will be playing Singapore at 16:00 on 6th May. Sri Lanka v Kazakhstan will also lock horns on 6th May. The winning teams will play in the final on 9th May with the two losing teams playing in a 3rd/4th playoff. Good luck Mat!
