Blues win after Nailbiter!

The format of the competition was simplified by allowing the winner of both groups to play in the final for the Cup allowing a play off for the Plate. Brighton fielded two sides in the tournament, each team showing skill, flair and an ability to play rugby at a competitive level, against a skilled opposition. In group 1 Brighton showed their opponents no sign of nerves and won all of their four matches, both Worthing & Hove only narrowly defeated by 2 & 1 tries respectively. Brighton scored the second highest number of tries at 19, Worthing notching up 21.
In group 2 Brighton held they own by beating Pulborough 9 tries to 4 where the boys played as a team backing each other up while constantly tagging the opposition to gain ground, keeping the majority of possession in the second half. Overall Brighton faced tough opponents including Worthing who scored 31 tries in their group but only narrowly winning 6-5 tries against Haywards Heath to go through into the final.
Brighton were totally relentless in the Cup Final against Worthing with constant tagging, interrupting their running flow. When Brighton gained the ball they showed evidence of their ability to score by side stepping and good use of the pitch but several offside and in touch offensives proved costly. The final score showed only a narrow win to Brighton by 5-4 tries. The Plate was won by Worthing beating Haywards Heath in a closely contested Final.
The coaches and parents were very proud of all the boys who played on Sunday and were especially proud of Brighton! The teams were focussed and committed. Well done Brighton!
