A nail biting day for the Blues 16B saw them run out winners in this closely fought contest

A real game of 2 halves.

To be honest, the first half wasn’t good viewing for the Blues supporters! – almost lethargic (with some bright spots – Alfie’s hit on their centre being the brightest..), with a lot of looking about at each other wondering who was going to do the work for the team. Brighton ran into the break 17-5 down and were staring down the barrel.

When everyone realised that the only people that were going to win the game were themselves working for each other, the Blues played the sort of rugby we want to see. Tough words at half time made the difference and a fired up Blues team hit the new whistle hard.

The second half was a different game to the first. Aggression, momentum, go forward, hard tackling, good rucking, good running lines etc. The last 25 minutes were excellent. Punched up tries and hard tackling saw cracks start to get wider and wider as the Pulborough defence tired. Each try saw the Blues edge nearer the win and it was good to see Harrison bullock his way through some tired Pulborough legs in the last 5 minutes to take the score to 20-17.

MoM was Harrison – well done and other mentions to Sam Shah (excellent scrummaging work), Seb (3 line out steals and a critical turnover on our 22), Jamie M (3 cover tackles to stop tries and some excellent kicking out of the danger zone), Bailey (4 turnovers at the breakdown) and Jonathan (cover tackle late in the game that stopped their final attack).

A good win – Pulborough were a decent side with some good play makers – so for the first league game of the season a W is always a nice thing to have in the results table.
